Its a rather interesting Read if not trying ever so hard to defend Religon. i though i would pick out a few things and put my comments on them.

"Obviously, there are areas of life where having good reasons for what we believe is very important. Courts of law and medicine are evidence-based practices, which need rigorous procedures to establish the facts" In that case why isn't the fact of religon put to this Test? its so fundermental in our society that it has just been acepted, Never throughly tested to show its actually right. Its like ruling your life to Arts, no facts just opinions.

"That doesn't mean we have to believe the latest scientific consensus. If we know anything, it's that our current theories will turn out to be riddled with errors" your doing it wrong. Science looks at the enviroment and trys to explain it in a way that is CLOSE to what it actually is, obviously somethings are very hard and will have errors, But said errors will be found and corrected when tecnology provides the means.

"Science isn't actually about belief - any more than religion is about belief" Science is about FATS, Religon is about the Rejection of Facts if they confilit with what you beleive.

"If Darwin's theory of evolution is even roughly right, humans aren't built to understand how the universe works. The human brain evolved under the pressures of the struggle for life." evolution is rather solid, its shown in nature in micro and large scale. Humans were cold so we devised a way to make us warm, humans invted Myhts and Religon to try to explain the world around them. Humans strive for knowledge in every way, All reigon has done is opress this knowledge.

"Science hasn't enabled us to dispense with myths. Instead it has become a vehicle for myths - chief among them, the myth of salvation through science. Many of the people who scoff at religion are sublimely confident that, by using science, humanity can march onwards to a better world. " Sciences has never said that it can disprove religon because it can't, THERE IS NO SCIENCE TO RELIGON ITS JUST OPINIONS, the opinions of a stubbon mule.

"But "humanity" isn't marching anywhere. Humanity doesn't exist, there are only human beings, each of them ruled by passions and illusions that conflict with one another and within themselves. " Yes we conflict, but Humanity is MARCHING, heck its fucking sprinting with science its marched INTO SPACE, shot to the fathest reachers of the solarsystem, put men on the moon, explored the world, lets your travel around the world quicker that ever, provided the intenet, provides computers with out science we would be living like african tribes, in mud huts with nothing of tecnology and science. as albert einsten says "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal." tecnology is science.

"Science has given us many vital benefits, so many that they would be hard to sum up. But it can't save the human species from itself." science doesn't envoke wars, it just provides the way to win/lose them. the fundermental human nature of religon causes wars (NOT ALL WARS THO)

"The idea that humans will rise from the dead may be incredible, but no more so than the notion that "humanity" can use science to remake the world." science has already made the world look at it! afican tribes have been living with religon for thousands of years, Now look at the western World its like a a universe away from what it was.

the march of tecnological progress is relentless and unforgiving, but necessary its trying to change something that has been accpeted for Millenia, its like trying to disprove a theory that is broken beyond beleive but works in two or three ways, it just doesn't want to die as we don't have a theory for those two or three ways.

wow that was a long post.

Setting up Ubuntu

If you are going to instal as a partition (2 operating systems on one hard drive) the DEFRAGMENT your disk first

at some point during instalation you will be asked to create a password, this is the ADMIN password and should be easy to remember,  anytime you want to instal you will have to use this password.

1. go into the BIOS on you computer (on a dell its f2 or f12 on the keyboard as soon as you swith you computer on.
2. Go to the boot options and make sure CD is the primary boot.
3. Now put the CD in and exit the BIOS.
(the current new few steps are whatthe ubuntu forums say you should do, i used Gpart to partition my drive before hand. if you are installing on a new hard drive the steps in red are irrelevent just continue with instalation.)
4.Select install and proceed untill you come accross "how do you want to partition your drive"
5. chose the first option somthing like "Resize IDE1 master, partition #1 (hda1) and use freed space"
6. select the percentage of the drive you want to free up for ubuntu (minimun of 10GB i would suggest)
7. select forward and continue with instalation
i am not sure where this comes up however for ease when you see the option instal with 3rd party software slect that option
8. once the instal is finished restart the computer.

If using a partition drive it will come up with the "GRUB" boot menu when you start DO NOT BE ALARMED select what one you want to boot at that time windows or ubuntu.

And you done, if you want to remove please follow a diffrent guide to come later. Sorry for no pictures of this as its hard for me to screenshot the install process.

What to bare in mind:
1. Ubuntu CAN read you Windows partition, however windows can't read the ubuntu files, so be careful not to change files in the windows area.
2. Ubuntu doesn't instal softwear the same as windows (see later post for instalation guide)
3. Ubuntu is not for games, although there are games they are not very good or plentful

My adventures with GRUB

this is a tale of my adventures with grub and how it almost ruined everything. I was working as one does on a duel booted disk, when the thought occured to me that i never used the Ubuntu side of my disk so i decided to destroy it. Putting in Gpartition and delete the area that Ubuntu was thought i was rid of the problem, however i was not.

Upon re-boot it had an error message to be exact this one:
Error: no such partition
grub rescue>

Looking around i couldn't find a solution i could understand, so i went on the prowl. After Venturing around the dephts of the internet i came across the solution, i was glorious and simple. firstly i need a bootdisk, i found one and ran it. Summoning the power of "fdisk /mbr" i run it and restarted the computer, and the lord provided. it booted into xp.

so thats my adventures with it.

inshort below is what i did
1.Create a windows Boot CD doesn't matter how old i used a 98 one for XP pro from Here
2. go into bios set up and make sure CD is the Top boot option
3. put CD in the turn off and on again
4. will come up with a command prompt syle look
5. type in: fdisk /mbr
6. it will not show anything, once you can type again restart the computer
7. Grub is gone and will boot normally (i recomend you keep the CD as it could be usful in the future)

if this style of writing is alright i will run with this style

I'm Alex, however i go by the screen name KESTRELx or K3STR3Lx depending on avaiabiliy
This is just a little about me, and what i plan to post here.
  1. I don't plan to be here oftern, just the occasional update as i'm currently very bussy.
  2. I am dyslexic so my grammar and spelling with not be amazing but hopefully readable.
  3. I'm fairly adapt with a computer this is porobilly what this blog will focus on.
  4. Everything i show i will not be responcibly for how you use it, i just provid the knowledge of how it works, so expect anything which is contraversal to not inclued any download links at all.
  5. First tip will be about my battle with ubuntu and windows (i might do it in a comic style with key points under)
